North Sikkim & Darjeeling Tour

8 Days

North Sikkim Darjeeling Tour brings together the high mountain valleys of North Sikkim and the tea-growing hills of Darjeeling in one road journey. The eight-day route begins with Gangtok, climbs to Lachen for a planned Gurudongmar Lake excursion, continues through Lachung and Yumthang Valley, then finishes in Darjeeling. It is a striking combination of Himalayan landscapes, local village life, Gangtok heritage and Darjeeling’s historic hill-town character.

The tour includes eight days and seven nights, with three nights in Gangtok, one in Lachen, one in Lachung and two in Darjeeling. That means two nights in Gangtok before travelling north, and another Gangtok night after leaving the northern valleys. Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station pickup and drop-off are included in the proposed package.

The North Sikkim section is a demanding mountain-road journey, not a leisurely succession of short drives. From Lachen, eligible Indian travellers may visit Gurudongmar Lake at approximately 5,430 metres, subject to the necessary permission, health considerations and road access. The following day explores Yumthang Valley before returning to Gangtok; an extension to Zero Point is optional and cannot be promised on such a long transfer day. In Darjeeling, the pace becomes gentler, with Tiger Hill, Batasia Loop, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and tea-garden viewpoints among the planned attractions.

This is a private tourist-vehicle sightseeing tour, with short walks around monuments, villages, parks and viewpoints. It does not involve multi-day hiking, but long journeys on winding roads and exposure to very high altitude require realistic expectations. The Gurudongmar section of this itinerary is intended for Indian travellers eligible to visit the lake. Foreign visitors can request a revised itinerary that excludes restricted destinations.

North Sikkim Darjeeling Tour Price

The starting estimate of ₹47,999 per adult applies to a pair travelling privately and staying in standard-category twin-sharing rooms. The proposed services cover seven overnight stays, Bagdogra/NJP transfers, the main sightseeing circuit, breakfast in Gangtok and Darjeeling, and the stated meal plan in Lachen and Lachung. The actual quotation can change with season, group size, vehicle requirements, room category, permit arrangements and optional activities. Larger groups may receive a lower per-person quote because transport costs are shared. The starting price is a researched estimate, not an owner-approved fixed tariff.

Route, Altitude and Road Conditions

The route is Bagdogra/NJP → Gangtok (2 nights) → Lachen (1 night) → Lachung (1 night) → Gangtok (1 night) → Darjeeling (2 nights) → Bagdogra/NJP. This circuit follows the owner’s original sequence, but stops and driving times are described as approximate rather than guaranteed. Gurudongmar Lake is exceptionally high, and one night in Lachen does not ensure acclimatisation. A clinician experienced in altitude travel should assess anyone with relevant health concerns before booking. If symptoms of altitude illness develop, guests should not continue ascending and should follow qualified medical and local safety instructions.

North Sikkim sightseeing depends on current permits, checkpoints, weather and the state of roads rebuilt or repaired after landslides. A road reported open does not guarantee access on the travel date. For seasonal planning, see our Best Time to Visit Sikkim guide. Tour Overview

Explore the contrast between North Sikkim’s high valleys and Darjeeling’s historic tea hills over eight days. The planned itinerary combines Gangtok sightseeing, Lachen and Gurudongmar Lake, Lachung and Yumthang Valley, followed by two nights in Darjeeling.

Overnight stays are Gangtok (3), Lachen (1), Lachung (1) and Darjeeling (2). The tour includes Bagdogra Airport or NJP pickup and drop-off, private tourist-vehicle road transfers and scheduled attractions. Gurudongmar and the upper North Sikkim roads require permissions and suitable conditions; the Zero Point extension is optional, not a guaranteed activity.

This sightseeing holiday involves short walks but no organised multi-day trek. Visitors should be prepared for long road journeys, simpler accommodation in the northern villages and very high-altitude exposure. Pricing is an indicative two-adult private-tour estimate and varies by dates, season, accommodation and group size.
